Converting farmland into vineyards was subject to strict Electoral Palatinate regulations. Johann Peter Gerhardt also had to comply with these regulations when, according to an official document, he acquired a further 4 vineyards in addition to his own vineyards in 1751. Since that time, the sons of the following 7 generations have continued to optimize viticulture, the art of cooperage, sales and, above all, the quality of winemaking. As early as the 1920s, “Old” Jakob Gerhardt sent traveling salesmen throughout Germany to make his wine known beyond the borders of the Rhineland.
In 1987, Max Dieter Altmann acquired the company with the aim of successfully continuing this winery, which had grown over the centuries, as a family business in the future. The name Jakob Gerhardt has thus been preserved with the change of ownership and is now led into the future under the expert management of managing director Pierre Boos.
