Upcycling fashion from Tanja Unlimited

They are colorful, unisex and can be worn on both sides: The hand-knotted "Tanja Jackets" by Tanja Unlimited AB made from old camel blankets and saris are real eye-catchers that take a lot of time and effort to create. The garments are designed in the designer's Swedish studio and produced both in India and Sweden.

Swedish fashion - Indian heritage

Tanja Kisker from Sweden, founder of Tanja Unlimited AB, has lost her heart to both India and Sweden. Every tenth week she travels to meet her master tailors and support them in their work. On location in India, she buys beautiful old Indian fabrics. These include hand-quilted camel blankets and silk fabrics that were once worn as saris by women in Rajasthan.

When buying textiles, she does not engage in hard bargaining, but relies on friendly cooperation with the people in rural India. She searches for buttons and accessory details, which she supplies to her master tailors and then instructs them in their work. She prefers to travel through India on a Royal Enfield Bullet 500cc motorcycle, but also by bus, jeep, camel, plane, train or auto-rickshaw, depending on where she is going.

Stories about ancient camel blankets and silk saris

Her fabrics tell their own story: Indians who sell Tanja camel blankets or saris are happy that their fabrics are given a second life and beautiful, colorful jackets with the Tanja label are created - a kind of exclusive recycling.

Tanja prints fabrics with her designs, watercolors by her mother Ullita (Ulrika Kisker) and her own calligraphic lettering, which are available on high-quality scarves and shawls, tunics, blouses, handbags and cushions. She is convinced that colors and fabrics influence self-image - her creations are original creations and true works of art designed to brighten the mood.

And it doesn't stop at the jackets: "It's great fun to weave my collections in such a way that the same patterns reappear on cashmere scarves, silk blouses and jackets, handbags, art cushions, tablecloths, bandanas, art cards and all the other products made from fine materials such as wool, side and pure pashmina from Tanja Unlimited," Tanja explains.

At her stand in the LEBENSART theme world (Hall 19, Stand F09) at infa, visitors can discover, try on and, of course, buy Tanja jackets in a wide variety of patterns and colors.
