Marco Mehn creates unique works of art of expanded dimensions, creates new spaces of seeing. He reaches layers of perception and consciousness that sometimes amaze the viewer, but always cast a spell over them.
One of the highlights: The ‘Big Five’ art series
In addition to many impressive works of art, one of the highlights is his high-quality art series ‘Big Five’. It brings the charisma of Africa's most impressive big game animals to life, powerfully presenting their force of nature to the eye of the beholder: the imposing elephant, the massive rhinoceros, the mighty buffalo, the lurking leopard and the majestic lion - they epitomise Africa.
From deepest to brightest red, the series shows one of the great leitmotifs of Marco Mehn's work: the greatest power, overwhelmingly beautifully captured on canvas. Each painting in mixed-media technique, each measuring 1.42 x 1.42 metres, achieves the same magical effect with its inimitable characteristics: fascination.
‘The Big Five’, a term used in hunting, originally referred to the big game that represents the most valuable trophies for hunters, but also the greatest, deadly risk. Even if collecting natural trophies is a thing of the past, works of art can transport us into this world.
After all, the persistent hunt for the extraordinary and the hope of triumph are part of the myths of mankind. Marco Mehn wants to give expression to this myth of power with this series. In the large-format, square works, the magic of his inimitable painting technique is evident down to the finest detail.
Marco Mehn will be exhibiting these and other high-quality works of art at LEBENSART (Hall 19, Stand L10) from 12 - 20 October.
